About Horizons
Horizons Greater Washington develops public private partnerships between independent and public school communities to provide academic, cultural, and recreational programs designed to empower economically disadvantaged students to realize their full potential.
Horizons is committed to the development of the whole child by providing experiences that build problem-solving skills, foster awareness of community responsibility, instill respect for oneself and others, and encourage a life-long interest in learning.
Horizons Greater Washington is an affiliate of Horizons National.
Summer Program
- Students begin the summer before 1st grade and graduate the summer after 8th grade.
- Full days of hands-on educational enrichment and summer fun with dedicated veteran teachers and high school student assistant teachers.
- The student teacher ratio is 5 to 1, ensuring a nurturing learning environment.
- The curriculum emphasizes reading, language arts, math computer, science, art, music and daily instruction in swimming and weekly field trips.
Saturday Program
- In the fall, winter and spring, students can participate in a series of enrichment programs each Saturday.
