Marta is a Washingtonian who has lived in the city for over 20 years. She graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University where she earned a B.A in Fine Arts and minored in Sociology and Spanish. In 2015 she began her career as a Teach for America Corp member and was placed at Columbia Heights Educational Campus (C.H.E.C) in Northwest DC as a Spanish Language Arts teacher. During her time at C.H.E.C, she also taught History in Spanish to grades 6 and 7 for three years. In 2018, she transitioned to work at Maret School where she has worked for three years as a middle school Spanish teacher. In addition, she serves as a Parent Liaison for Spanish-speaking families with the Maret Admissions Office.
Marta has worked with Horizons at the Maret School for over 10 years starting as a volunteer then transitioning to an Assistant Teacher, later to the Administrative Assistant, then as the Assistant Site Director, and currently holds the role of Site Director. She is currently pursuing her Masters of Social Work at the University of Denver with a concentration in Trauma and Mental Health.
In her free time, Marta enjoys working out, cooking, and spending time with her friends and family.
