Horizons Greater Washington

Horizons Greater Washington is proud to announce and welcome Maria Barry as its Executive Director. Maria brings over 20 years of nonprofit management and fundraising experience in the DC area.

Maria Barry discovered a dedication to community organizing and youth development after working on a state-wide referendum in Maryland in 1992. From there, she served as an AmeriCorps member, worked for numerous nonprofits and education and environmental campaigns. She served as the Executive Director of Hands on Baltimore, the Director of States and Communities at America's Promise, served as Partnership Development Officer at the Foundation for the NIH, a Sponsorships & Corporate Development Manager for the National Cherry Blossom Festival and as an Account Manager at the DC Sustainable Energy Utility.

She currently serves as President of the Friends of 16th Street Heights Parks group, an all-volunteer effort and serves on the Boards of the District of Columbia Little League and the Northwest Little League. She spends much of her free time at DC's parks, athletic fields, and playgrounds, trying to keep up with her son Ethan. Maria has lived in DC since 1996 and completed her Bachelor of Art's in Political Science at the University of Wisconsin--Madison.
